What human studies say about job's tears (coix)
- Lung cancer outcomes · Meta-analysis, 27 studies, 2,243 participants · 2020
Compared with platinum-based chemotherapy alone, adding Kanglaite injection was associated with higher disease control and objective response rates, better quality of life, higher CD4+ T cells, and fewer severe toxicities. Limitation: Quality of evidence was moderate to low, and the intervention was an injectable seed extract given with chemotherapy, so it is not comparable to dietary Job's tears. PubMed 31926475 - Immune markers, vascular function · Randomized controlled trial · 2024
Myeloperoxidase activity rose significantly in the placebo group after 8 weeks but showed no significant change in the adlay tea group. Vascular endothelial function improved in the adlay group, especially in those over 40. Limitation: Participants were healthy adults and the outcomes were surrogate markers, so the results say little about clinical disease outcomes. Tea is a polyphenol-rich extract, not whole grain. PubMed 38945894 - Gut microbiota, immune cells · Non-randomized clinical trial, 19 participants · 2021
Compared with a no-intervention group, one week of coix seed intake was associated with higher intestinal Faecalibacterium abundance and higher proportions of CD3+CD8+, CD4+ and CD4+CD25+ cells. Limitation: Very small sample (11 intervention, 8 comparison), only men, a 7-day duration, and a no-intervention comparator rather than placebo, so the findings are preliminary. PubMed 34836336
Most studies used extracts or doses that differ from home cooking. Full details in the Nourilo Research Library.
