Why people make this tea
Before the New Year, the older brother of a friend of Nourilo developed pneumonia. After treatment, he was left with asthma. During an attack he would breathe rapidly, lift his shoulders as he struggled for breath and have persistent phlegm sounds in his throat, requiring prompt medical attention or he would be unable to sleep at night.
His condition improved after treatment, but as he grew older and physically weaker, the attacks would still return from time to time. His brother therefore asked Nourilo whether there was a food-therapy recipe that might help. Because the man’s phlegm was white and thin, his constitution was relatively weak and he was sleeping poorly, Nourilo recommended this walnut, almond and ginger tea. Traditionally, it is used to provide nourishment, strengthen the constitution, and ease coughing and wheezing, making it particularly suited to older or physically weak people who are prone to cough and wheeze.
